This Next Spotlight Goes to Our Editor-in-Chief: Abby Kandel

What goals do you hope to achieve for the SBA this year?

My main goal is to generate more buzz surrounding the blog, and increase the amount of writers we have this year. I plan to be in constant communication with the social media officers in order to increase awareness for the blog, and how to get involved.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

The best piece of advice I have received is that your network is your currency. Networking and taking advantage of the network you have created are such important skills to have and learn.

What are three things you value in your life?

Three things I value in my life are my well-being, my family, and my education along with the opportunities that come with that.

What athlete has inspired you the most?

Alex Morgan. I grew up playing soccer and as a kid she was always such an inspiring, positive female role model to me.

Where do you hope to see yourself professionally in 10 years?

Ten years is a long time away, and things are constantly changing, so I can’t say where I hope to see myself, but I do hope I am happy and love what I do. A dream of mine would be to work in major events for arenas and stadiums, therefore I could combine both my love for sports and entertainment.

Why do you want to work in the sports industry?

Growing up I played soccer all of my childhood, and I lived the life of an athlete, and knew that life wasn’t for me. Sports have always been a passion of mine, but I’ve always wanted to experience them from another point of view.

What motivated you to get involved in the SBA?

I wasn’t involved in any student organizations first semester, so I was really on the hunt for something. Nothing else really seemed to interest me, and when I found the SBA, I was thrilled because I’ve always loved sports. Soon after I began writing for the blog and loved it, I looked forward to researching and writing my monthly articles.

What do you consider your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is how communicative I am. I enjoy talking to others listening to what people have to say as well. I’m easily accessible, and reply almost immediately when people contact me.

What part of SBA are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m most looking forward to recruiting new members, both for the blog and in general. Previously we’ve had great social events to build our awareness, and I’m really excited to see what’s in store for this year.

What is one thing we absolutely need to know about you?

If I had to root for one sports team for the rest of my life it would absolutely be the New York Yankees.
