This Last Spotlight Goes to Our President: Sarah Carmichael

What has motivated you to want to be a part of the sports industry?

All of the amazing women that have met that work in the sports industry are my motivation. The future of the sports industry is being positively impacted by women everyday, and they will continue to influence the industry for years in the future. l hope to be a part of that and be a motivation for more young women to get involved.

What is your biggest dream?

I would love to create an all-female sports agency, with female agents and athletes.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Listen to understand, not to respond. I think this advice changed the way that I interact with others, it is impossible to fully listen to what someone is saying if you are thinking the whole time about what to reply with. I got more comfortable with silence in conversations after really understanding this advice.

If you could describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be and why?

Ambitious: I have always been ambitious in my own personal goals but also this translates into me being a good leader in encouraging others to succeed.

Kind: I generally just value being kind and welcoming to others, I think the importance of it is often overlooked. Also, my grandma calls me Miss Kindness :)

Resourceful: I love finding answers to questions and helping others find answers to their own questions.

What is one of your goals for GWSBA this semester?

One of my goals is to continue to be an open and welcoming community for all students, regardless of their academic background or interests. While SBA is a professional organization, we are also a group of students who love sports and love to share our passion with the GW community.

What do you enjoy most about GWSBA?

I enjoy learning more about people's interests and how their experiences led them to wanting a career in the sports industry. Over the past few years, we have created a great community and I look forward to expanding it this year.

How have your professional experiences impacted where you are today?

One of the most impactful experiences that I have had thus far was working at the golf course. I really was able to work on my organizational and customer service skills. In addition, due to the small size of the off-season staff, I was highly involved in course operations and was able to do really interesting financial analysis of our sales. These experiences definitely helped me get my internship with Progressive Sports and Entertainment, where more agency experience

What is one thing we should absolutely know about you?

I love meeting new people! I hope to meet a ton of new students this year and help them get involved with both the SBA and other activities on campus.

What is something you would tell your younger self right now?

I would tell myself to take advantage of every single opportunity that comes my way, especially right at the beginning of college. Getting involved in a bunch of different things is a great way to meet people and also explore various interests, both professional and personal.

If you could meet one athlete in any sport, who would it be and why?

I would love to meet Simone Biles. I think she is an amazing role model for young female athletes. I admire her athletic ability but also the way that she advocates for mental health awareness in sports.
