Our Last Spotlight does to our President, William Davis!

By: Hailie Cadeau & Mac Steckler

Q: How did you get into sports?

A: I started looking into sports when I went to my first basketball game at the Verizon Center (Capital One Arena). I saw Gilbert Arenas scoring so many points which caused me to pay attention to statistics heavily.

Q: Who is your role model in the sports industry?

A: My role model in the sports industry is Ervin 'Magic' Johnson. He has done so much on and off court. I like the business aspects of opening movie theaters, being activists for housing, and partially owning different sports teams. He really maximized his career after having a spectacular resume on the court.

Q: What made you want to work in the sports industry?

A: What made me want to work in the sports industry was learning about the different opportunities sports has to offer beyond playing and broadcasting. I really started looking into this in high school after I saw on ESPN that many retired players were owning other teams or becoming General Managers, This really sparked my interests into finding out what else sports has to offer.

Q: What is something you wish you had known about going into the industry before college and applying to internships?

A: I wish I knew how beneficial networking is in the sports world. If you network well enough and gain connections you basically have a foot in the door without doing too much hard work in getting a job. Also, networking is good because professionals give great advice on helping you land future goals too.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: My dream job is to work directly for a player helping them understand their finances and for a sports team either assisting their finances or working in the digital marketing sector.

Q: What are you doing this summer?

A: I am getting ready for next semester, planning events and gaining connections for SBA. I am also focusing on finishing off my Senior year strong.

Q: What experiences do you have working in the sports industry?

A: I work in the GW Athletics Business Office where I learn the finances behind teams but also learn different roles within working in a college athletic arena.

Q: What motivates you?

A: My motivation comes from impacting the future after me. In my family, I am often looked at as the older kid with much experience. This is seen in my church as well. People have messaged me throughout my collegiate career, for advice, listening to them, and giving them hope for the future. This is what keeps me going, knowing I can leave an impact on the future generation.

Q: What is one thing people should definitely know about you?

A: I am always open to listening and helping anyone if they need anything. I'll try my best to assist them in any way I can.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?

A: I write poems in my free time.
