The Spotlight Shines on Our Vice President, Sarah Carmichael!

Let’s meet our Executive Vice President, Sarah Carmichael!

By: Hailie Cadeau and Mac Steckler

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?

A: I love dogs and I hope that dogs can be a bigger part of the sports industry in the future. Example: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/lifestyle/dogs-of-baseball/

Q: How did you get into sports?

A: I started playing sports when I was younger and always enjoyed the atmosphere. I got injured early in high school and had to find other ways to stay involved with my team so I began doing stats for the team during games. This experience was really what started my interest in working in the sports industry.

Q: What made you want to work in the sports industry?

A: Growing up as an athlete, I knew that eventually I would turn from an athlete into a spectator and I always dreaded that day a bit. Working in the sports industry gives me a perfect in-between where I can stay being around something I love while still having a successful career. Also, I love how unpredictable the industry is and how you never quite know how your day is going to go when you get to work.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: Sports agent for female athletes

Q: How will your previous experiences on the SBA E-Board, help you in your current role?

A: I was a co-VP of Member and Alumni Relations last year and I think that my understanding of what works for members and engages them will help a lot as I’m working more closely with companies to hold events.

Q: What are your expectations for the upcoming year with the SBA?

A: With all of the uncertainty regarding holding in-person events, I hope that, regardless of the restrictions, we can give our members events that are fun, relevant, and aid in their professional development.

Q: What kinds of events do you want the SBA to have this year that it hasn’t done in recent years or ever done at all?

A: I am looking forward to more collaborations between organizations that a business organization would not normally work with. We have been thinking of some really interesting events that tie sports together with other interests within the GW community. In addition, I think it is important to speak with professionals in the sports industry about how they adjusted their business practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Q: What are you doing this summer?

A: I am working at a family-owned delicatessen in my hometown of Andover, MA.

Q: What experiences do you have working in the sports industry?

A: I was a member of the Communications Game Day Staff for the XFL DC Defenders during their short run as a team. I worked in the press box, making sure that members of the media had everything they needed to provide coverage of the games.

Q: How would you describe your journey and how you got to where you are today?

A: One of the biggest parts of my journey has been listening and learning from the people around me. I am grateful for all of my peers and mentors who have helped me through the years to get where I am today. On the other hand, I learn something new about myself every day and it has been important to learn that I need to listen to my gut instinct and trust myself with making good decisions.

Q: What is one thing people should definitely know about you?

A: I love to talk with people about their interests in working in the sports industry. Please feel free to reach out over email if you want to chat!
