Today We Bring the Spotlight Towards Our VP of Communications, Ethan Cuccarese!

Now let’s Shift the Spotlight to our VP of Communications, Ethan Cuccarese!

By: Hailie Cadeau and Mac Stekler

Q: How did you get into sports?

A: I got into sports playing wiffle ball in my backyard and watching Pittsburgh sports with my dad since as young as I can remember.

Q: Who is your role model in the sports industry?

A: Lebron James

Q: What made you want to work in the sports industry?

A: I chose to work in the sports industry because sports have been such a huge part of my life growing up and has given me some of my greatest memories. I believe in choosing a career that you are intrinsically motivated to pursue, which is exactly what a career in sports will provide me.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: I'm still working on this one a bit, but working in the baseball industry in some capacity where I go to work everyday surrounded by my favorite sport is the dream.

Q:  What are you doing this summer?

A: I am a Marketing and Communications Intern for the Headfirst Companies here in DC, which operates youth baseball showcases and summer camps.

Q: What experiences do you have working in the sports industry?

A: Other than my current internship, I have worked for the Sport Integrity Global Alliance as an Operations Intern for their new Youth Development and Child Protection initiative. I also have some experience working for the Public Relations and Communications Department of the Washington Nationals during their 2019 Postseason run to the World Series.

Q: What motivates you?

A: The biggest thing that motivates me is the pursuit of knowledge. Even though it is cliche, knowledge is power and learning new concepts or ways of thinking, whether in the classroom or out in the world, motivates me to pursue new opportunities both personally and professionally.

Q: How would you describe your journey and how you got to where you are today?

A: My journey to where I am now is certainly not a straight line. I did not come to GW to study what I am now pursuing and making the switch to the sports industry was not an easy decision to make. But at the end of the day, I am where I am today because I have chosen to pursue a career and life that I am intrinsically motivated in and will be happy to wake up to every day, not just something that will give me more status or money.

Q: What is one thing people should definitely know about you?

A: I am a ride or die Pittsburgh sports fan. Yes, even when the Pirates lose 100 games for the next three years.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I own an autographed Emmitt Smith poster that he gave me after volunteering for his company.
