Shifting the Spotlight to Our Editor in Chief, Hailie Cadeau

Let’s meet our first Editor-in-Chief, Hailie Cadeau!

By: Mac Steckler

Q: How did you get into sports?

A: Growing up I played numerous sports: ballet, karate, swimming, basketball, softball, and cycling. In fifth grade, I got into basketball and have enjoyed playing since then. I also would watch the NBA, WNBA, UCONN Women’s Basketball games, WWE, and Little League.

Q: Who is your role model in the sports industry?

A: I have always admired Maya Moore, Cadence Parker,  and Skylar Diggins-Smith for their hard work and determination on and off the court.

Q: Who is one connection of yours that you have stuck by and always followed up with?

A: The first person that came to mind was Dakota Sinder, a GW SBA alum. He was my first mentor in the sports industry and helped me with my professional development during my freshman year. I still catch up with him occasionally and admire the path he has created for himself and the connections he has made.

Q: What made you want to work in the sports industry?

A: I always wanted to be an accountant growing up. It was not until my junior year of high school that I realized that was not a career I wanted to pursue. I researched many different majors and came across sports management. I always played sports and I knew I wanted to study business, so it was the perfect mix.

Q: What is something you wish you had known about going into the industry before college and applying to internships?

A: I wish I knew the importance of networking; I got my summer internship by networking at the SINC Conference! The sports industry is very small and everyone has a contact that they can connect you to.

Q: What experiences do you have working in the sports industry?

A: In high school, I did a short internship with my high school Athletic Department where I learned the logistics that go into scheduling a sports game, attended league meetings, and helped design new sports uniforms. Freshmen year, I was a Game Day Intern with the Men’s and Women’s Basketball games. I was able to work with USA Marketing at the 2019 World Series as an Activation Volunteer. I was able to work on their “We Play Loud” and “Stand Up 2 Cancer” activations. I am also a manager for the GW Women’s Basketball team.

Q: What are you doing this summer?

A: This summer I am interning at Madison Square Garden in their People Acquisition Department. It has been a great experience so far!  I have conducted phone interviews for their Fall Student Associate Program, researched different partnerships for clubs such as Girls Who Code and Black Girls Code, and I plan and execute social programs for the student associates. At the beginning of the quarantine, I started learning Spanish and took LinkedIn Learning courses.

Q: What motivates you?

A: I have a five-year-old sister, and I think wanting to be a positive role model for her motivates me. I want to be someone she can look up to, and help her mold her path. I am also motivated by work that makes an impact on others.

Q: What is something people should know about you?

A: I love spending quality time with friends and family, and I am obsessed with reality tv!

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?

A: My first MLB game was last year, Game 3 of the World Series.
